Recap - Innovative solutions for chronic diseases
Successful Recap symposium took place in Luxembourg.
Simultaneous to the Med-e-Tel conference on the 8th of April in Luxembourg the second Recap symposium was organised by the Hub 3 partners. The kick-off of the Recap Symposium: ‘Intelligent Systems Supporting Decision-Making’ was given by our Recap project partner Professor Sabine van Huffel from KU Leuven and iMinds Medical information Technologies Department with the presentation “Smart Diagnosis: Current Applications and Future Challenges” during the plenary opening session of the Med-e-Tel conference. This was very well attended and received with over 300 delegates. Sabine concluded with the challenge that technology transfer to market in medical technology is a though job and that the transnational collaboration within Recap tries to join forces to overcome problems/barriers linked to lack of support for businesses to market new, smart telehealth products. The Recap symposium continued with a general project presentation by lead partner project manager Marcel de Pender and the results of the UK and EU Telehealth Market Analysis by Nicolas Offer (HEE). This was followed by two presentations about the telehtealth systems used and analyzed within hub 3: the Philips Motiva system and the Doc@Home system by Sharon Donald (Philips Healthcare) and Adrian Flowerday (Docobo). Practical insight in telehealth integration into community care was given by Michelle Stapleton from NELFT and the first results of the telehealth systems used in the project were shared by Carolina Varon (KU Leuven) who presented a comparison between the two systems. The symposium was concluded with an educational video about the Recap telehealth project from a patients perspective. Between the presentations and during lunch the Recap booth was open for visitors interested in real time telehealth demonstrations of the Philips Motiva system and Docobo and poster presentations.
